Sustainable development is often characterised by conflicting goals and interdependencies. Such conflicts and interdependencies can arise between the world of business, politics, and society, as well as within the financial sector. This is why it was necessary, and important, that the SFC aimed for structural, comprehensive changes and took a holistic approach in formulating its recommendations to the German government. Sustainability aspects need to acquire the same weight as conventional business considerations in the minds of financial and corporate managers. Now it is to be hoped that the political decision-makers will have the courage to implement these recommendations promptly – the world urgently needs sustainability role models.
