The issue of sustainability has long been part of my everyday work. For this reason I would like to make a contribution, as part of my work on the SFC, to helping Germany develop into the leading location for sustainable finance. The public sector must finally act as a role model – with regard to the regulatory framework for and the financing of the transformation, and with regard to sustainable investments. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a key element in this respect. Large portions of the budget are SDG-compliant.
We are under time pressure; the sword of Damocles is hanging over us. We have lived for too long at the cost of future generations’ resources. The capital market must get on board. It plays an essential role in the sustainable transformation of our economy and society.
The financing and investment decisions that we make today and in the coming years will determine our future, as well as the future of our children, our grandchildren and the coming generations. There is no Plan(et) B!
